Washington State’s minimum wage will rise to the highest in the nation beginning on January 1, 2015.
According to the Seattle Times & blackamericaweb.com, the minimum wage in the state will hit $9.47/hour (1/1/2015); while the minimum wage in Oregon will rise to $9.25/hour. This wage will be the second-highest in the nation.
The state’s Employment Security Department says the pay bump (which will total $312 per year for full-time workers), will affect more than 67,000 workers.
According to the nonprofit National Employment Law Project,Washington and Oregon, along with 18 other states, are set to increase their minimum wages on New Year’s Day. New York will do so a day ahead, on December 31, 2014.
