WVEL Weather: Flash Flood Watch

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Lincoln, IL has issued a Flash Flood Watch for the entire WVEL-AM Listening Area  from this evening through Thursday Night/Early Friday Morning.

Periods of heavy rain are expected across Central Illinois from tonight through Thursday evening. Rainfall amounts of 2-4" are expected with localy higher amounts possible where thunderstorm persist. The grounds across much of the listening area has been saturated with several inches of rain over the last week. This will cause the majority of additional rain to become runoff; causing ditches to fill and water to cover low lying roads. Underpasses and poor drainage areas will likely see flash flooding develop. More widespread flooding could develop on rivers & streams the next few days.

Precautionary/Preparedness Actions:

A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash Flooding is a very dangerous situation. Keep listening to WVEL-AM for further details and weather updates. Stay safe & dry!
