WVEL News Scope: YWCA Will Be Opening Up A Membership Program For Ex-Offenders

We all know that getting your life back on track after being released from prison can be difficult, but one local organization wants to help make the transition a little easier.

The YWCA Labyrinth House of Bloomington, IL, is starting a new mentor-ship program for women recently released from prison.

They’re looking for mentors to help female ex-offenders ease back into society.The new program will allow mentors to help their mentees set and achieve personal goals.It also will provide participants tools for professional development and help the women find jobs.

Labyrinth House Program Director Kristin Manazi said,

“With mentoring a lot of times people only know who they knew before they went to jail or prison. so, mentoring will help people grow their personal network their professional network, and would help people learn different social skill, personal skills and professional skills.”

If you’d like to be a mentor, the program is still accepting applicants.

The program is still accepting mentor applicants. If accepted, mentors are required to attend a four training sessions beginning July 25th.
