The Peoria County Animal Protection Services (PCAPS) and the Veterans Assistance Commission (VAC) are promoting “Pets for Vets” throughout the month of November.

Veterans can adopt any animal from PCAPS at no charge throughout the month.

According to week.com, PCAPS and the VAC believe their partnership in the Pets for Vets promotion can bring awareness to both veteran’s issues and the pet overpopulation problem in many communities.

Bridget Domenighini, the PCAPS Director says

“If a veteran comes in they get fee waived adoption so there’s no charge for the adoption at all, but the adoption still comes complete with a spayed or neutered pet, a micro chip, first round of vaccines and 30 days of free pet health insurance. So it’s a pretty good deal.”

Domenighini also adds that the program is a great way to honor the nation’s heroes.

To adopt, PCAPS asks that veterans bring in a military ID, VA ID, or DD 214 as well as anyone else living in the household.

For more information, call PCAPS at (309) 672-2440 or contact Bridget Domenighini at [email protected].
