WVEL Education/Entertainment Scope: Beyonce Launches Formation Scholars Program

To add to the celebration of the one-year anniversary of LEMONADE, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter announces the establishment of Formation Scholars awards for the 2017-2018 academic year, to encourage and support young women who are unafraid to think outside the box.

According to scholarshipsonline.org, The Beyoncé Formation Scholars Program is open to young women who plan to attend one of four participating colleges and major in creative arts, music, literature or African-American studies. Four scholarships will be awarded.

Applicants must be females who are creative, confident, and bold. They may be incoming freshmen, current college students, or graduate students. They must attend one of four participating colleges: Berklee College of Music (Boston, MA), Howard University (Washington, DC), Parsons School of Design (Greenwich Village, New York City, NY), and Spelman College (Atlanta, GA). Applicants must have a GPA of 3.5 or above.

The purpose of the scholarship is to “encourage and support young women who are unafraid to think outside the box and are bold, creative, conscious and confident.” Berklee President Roger H. Brown, considers Beyoncé to be a strong role model for students.

The deadline for this scholarship is usually in MAY of each year, and the award amount is usually $25,000.
