The fear of losing your job could increase your risk of diabetes.

According to nbcnews.com, cinewsnow.com, and webmd.com. British researchers looked at data from more than 140,000 workers in the U.S., Australia, and Europe. The workers’ average age was 42.

Those worried about becoming unemployed were 19 percent more likely to be diagnosed with diabetes, regardless of their age of other health issues.

Other studies have linked job insecurity to weight gain and also had a higher risk of coronary heart disease which is a risk factor for diabetes.

In addition, they said, it’s important for doctors and other health care providers to know that if someone is worried about losing their job, they may have a modestly greater risk of developing diabetes.
