Old abandoned tires that collect water on rainy days are breeding grounds for potentially dangerous mosquitoes.
Which is why Peoria City Officials hope to keep the problem of illegal tire dumping out of city neighborhoods.
According to cinewsnow.com, last year between March and October, Peoria public works crews collected 3800 tires from residents. Identification was also needed to show proof of residency and in some cases there were extra requirements.
Peoria Neigborhood Coordinator Julie Eliathamby said,
“We wanted to see if we were seeing individuals popping up more than once and if they do what we have done as a committee is that we’ve kind of flagged them and we start asking additional questions.”
Peoria Neighborhood Enhancement Coordinator Terence Acquah said,
“Right now we’re in discussions to try and figure out and formulate a plan and if we see a tire, our plan is to pick them up and get them out before more people dump on them.”
Coordinators for the tireless project say they will be providing data to the city to help crack down on illegal tire dumping.
