According to cinewsnow.com, OSF Medical Centers Saint Joseph in Bloomington, Saint Mary in Galesburg, and Saint Anthony Health Center in Alton, have all received the Outstanding Patient Experience Award for 2016.
Healthgrades (healthgrades.com), a leading online resource for doctors and hospitals, recognized 22 hospitals in Illinois with the honor.
Outstanding Patient Experience Award recipients were identified through an evaluation of 10 patient experience measures, using data collected from a 32-question HCAHPS survey of the hospital’s own patients. The survey questions focus on patients’ perspectives of their care during their inpatient hospital stay.
In addition, Healthgrades released a new digital infographic that identifies key observations regarding patient safety and experience. Findings include:
-Four types of events make up nearly 75% of all patient safety events reported by hospitals. These include: accidental cut, puncture, or hemorrhage; collapsed lung; infections; and bed sores.
-Patient safety recipients are always equally or more likely than non-recipient hospitals to have superior outcomes in specialty areas. For example, Patient Safety Excellence Award Recipients are 5.1 times more likely to receive a Specialty Excellence Award for spinal surgery; 3.4 times more likely for Orthopedics overall; and 2.3 times more likely for Pulmonary Care overall.
-Hospitals that are top performers in patient experience continuously monitor trends in what patients find important as it relates to their overall assessment of a hospital stay.
