Fluid Related Tips:
-Take the time to warm your car so that the oil can recirculate.
-Make sure you have windshield wash that will work in at least -25 below temperature.
-Oil will get thicker when it’s colder, so change your oil to a thinner grade, like a 5w20 or 5w30.
-You should use a high grade fuel injection cleaner which will help your mileage, starting and overall performance. Cars can lose up to six miles per gallon when it gets cold out.
Tire Related Tips:
-All wheels lose pressure as it gets colder. Always monitor your tire pressure at least every other week.
-If you ever have a flat tire or had a tire replaced make sure you have them re-torqued every 50-100 miles. You can stop at any mechanic shop to have this done quickly.
-Check your tires to make sure the tread is still good. Low tread can be one of the reasons that cause a car to hydroplane. Every tire has a wear bar to show you when it needs to be replaced.
Emergency Readiness Tips:
-Make sure that you have emergency contacts and towing services available in your vehicle or on your phone.
-Batteries tend to lose their strength as it get colder out so make sure you have jumping cables or a booster pack in your vehicle.
-In case you were to break down, always have blankets, water, non-perishable food, flares, candles, matches, flashlight, and batteries.
