According to cinewsnow.com, Coach Wayne McClain is being honored in Peoria and throughout the state.
On Thursday, Janunary 15, 2015 was declared "Wayne McClain Day" throughout the state.
The hometown legendary coach passed away in October 2014.
Earlier this week, the city of Peoria re-named a portion of the street in front of Manual High School as Honorary Wayne McClain Court.
His son Sergio McClain, said his father was a great man, mentor, and coach. He also said,
"Some coaches don't put life and basketball together, every time we got on the court it was a lesson about life."
Wayne McClain left his mark in Peoria as a player and coach at Manual High School where he guided the Rams to state titles in each of his first three seasons as head coach. He would later join the coaching staff at the University of Illinois and Kasnsas State University as an assistant.
Most recently, McClain was head basketball coach at Champaign Central High School in Champaign, IL.
