If you receive an e-mail supposedly from Ameren, be very cautious. According to ameren.com, the company has learned of an e-mail scam targeting our customers and other utility customers across the United States. The suspicious e-mail appears to have been sent by Ameren; however, it is a scam.

The e-mail message may request information about your account or ask you to make an immediate payment. Again, this is a scam.

Here are a couple of ways to protect yourself and your information if you receive a scam e-mail:

-Do not respond to the request or message

-Do not click on any links provided with the e-mail

-Do not open any attachments

-Do not provide any personal information

Please know that if this scam happens, you can:

-Verify Ameren employees, who are requesting entry to your home or business, by requesting to see their Ameren identification. If you have any questions about their identity, ask the person to wait outside and call 1-800-755-5000 or 1-800-232-2477 for verification.

-Contact Ameren if you receive a call that's suspicious, especially if the caller demands an immediate payment for any reason and requests personal information or threatens to disconnect your service. Hang up and call 1-800-755-5000 or 1-800-232-2477 right away.

For more information, you can go to Ameren's website at www.ameren.com.
