That's how many Americans will journey 50 miles or more from home during the year-end holiday season, an increase of 0.6 percent from the 94 million people who traveled last year. This upward trend marks the fifth consecutive year of increases and the highest travel volume recorded for the season. The year-end holiday period is defined as Saturday, December 21, 2013 to Wednesday, January 1, 2014.
91%:
That number is the percentage of people to travel by automobile, an increase of .9%.
29.7%:
That's the number that of all Americans will take a trip this holiday, with more than one in four (27%) taking a road trip.
5.53 million:
That's the expected number of holiday air travel to decline slightly from 5.61 million last year.
$765:
That number is the Median spending expected to increase, compared to $759 last year.
805:
This number is the average distance expected to be driven, which is an increase of 45 miles from last year when travelers logged 760 miles.
74%, 70%, 51%:
Visiting with friends and family (74%), dining (70%), and shopping (51%) will be the most popular activities.
3.13 million:
That is the number of travelers who will choose other modes of transportation, including rail, bus, and cruise ship.
