The Find Your Light campaign was launched on October 1, 2013 in honor of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. As a steadfast partnership between the Center for Prevention of Abuse and the Peoria Community, the campaign aims to generate awareness and educate the public about all forms of abuse: verbal, physical, sexual, and mental as seen in the elderly, men, women, and children.

More than 300 Peoria residents have pledged their support for National Domestic Violence Awareness Month joining the Find Your Light Campaign, a partnership between the Center for Prevention of Abuse and local boutique Hey Lola.

In Mid-October, the Find Your Light Campaign hosted its first event at Bradley University’s Late Night BU (a monthly alcohol-free, late-night entertainment).  220 Bradley students visited the campaign booth and took a picture with their pledge showing their support for Domestic Violence Awareness. Participants entered a raffle to win a gift basket provided by Hey Lola, the first local business partner of the campaign.

With the initial success on Bradley’s campus, the campaign is now expanding its invitation to Peoria, IL residents for their pledge support. The second pledge event will take place at Hey Lola (located on Main and Sheridan), on Saturday, November 9, 2013, between 10am–2pm All individuals and families supporting Domestic Violence Awareness are welcome to stop by the store and take a pledge photo. The photo zone will be located in the store and all necessary items to take the photo will be provided. Each pledge photo denotes an individual’s inspiration for supporting Domestic Abuse Awareness. Examples from Bradley students would include “For a friend in need”, “For all those that feel they don’t have a voice”, and “For my Mom, me, and sister. Because we’re worth it!”
