Peoria, IL…..All-American City!!
The city of Peoria has reason to celebrate; the River City has been named a winner of the 2013 All-America City Award.
A few weeks ago, Peoria made a video showcasing the city in hopes of getting the title of All- American City. Over the weekend, the hard work paid off.
The announcement was made at a ceremony held in Denver, CO. This is the fourth time Peoria has won the award, the last award coming 24 years ago in 1989.
According to allamericancityaward.com, pollster George Gallup describes the "All-American City Award" as a “Nobel Prize For Civic Accomplishment." The awards have been given to more than 600 communities since its inception in 1949. Some cities have won it as many as five and six times. Not just cities, but neighborhoods, towns, counties, and metropolitan regions can apply for the prestigious award.
Congratulations once again to Peoria, IL for being this year's All-American City!
