"Are you ready for the Super Bowl?"
The Super Bowl is headed back to the Bay Area for the first time since '85; the big game will be heading to Houston the folowing year.
According to NFL Network, NFL owners voted earlier today at the NFL Spring Meeting to award Super Bowl L (50) in 2016 to San Francisco. The game will be played in the 49ers' new Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, CA. San Francisco beat out South Florida for the honor of hosting the 50th championship game since the NFL-AFL merger.
A vote was then taken by the owners on whether to award Super Bowl LI (51) to Houston or South Florida. Reliant Stadium, which hosted XXXVIII between the New England Patriots and Carolina Panthers in 2004, won the bid for the 2017 game.
The Bay Area hosted only one previous Super Bowl, with Joe Montana's crew defeating Dan Marino and the Miami Dolphins 38-16 in Super Bowl XIX at Stanford Stadium in Stanford, CA.
These two cities were the last pieces of the Super Bowl puzzle to fit for 2016 & 2017. New York/New Jersey and Arizona are the top two that will fit the first pieces of the 'Bowl puzzle and hosting in 2014 and 2015 respectively.
