1931:(82 years ago)-  Pulitzer Prize  winner (for her novel Beloved), novelist and author Toni Morrison (born Chloe Ardelia Wofford) was born on this day in Lorain, OH.

1896: (117 years ago)- H. Grenon patents the Razor Stropping Device on this day.

1894: (119 years ago)- Paul Revere Williams, a renowned American architect, was born on this day in Los Angeles, CA.

1865: (129 years ago)- Rebels abandoned Charleston. First Union troops to enter the city included Twenty-first U.S.C.T., followed by two companies of the Fifty-fourth Massachusetts Volunteers.

1688: (325 years ago)- First formal protest against slavery by organized white body in English America made by Germantown (Pennsylvania) Quakers at monthly meeting; the historic "Germantown Protest" denounced slavery and the slave trade on this day.
