DAV Counseling & Assistance Saturday, September 11, 2010
So many veterans feel confused about benefits and services they’ve earned. There’s so much to know...and so many changes from one year to the next. That’s why the nonprofit Disabled American Veterans (D-A-V) and the Harley-Davidson Foundation have teamed up to offer help. The DAV Mobile Service Office will be at the Walters Brothers Harley-Davidson, 615 South Maxwell Road, Peoria, Illinois, from 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., on Saturday, September 11, 2010, to personally provide the best counseling and claim filing assistance available. BRIAN'S BENEFIT Saturday, September 11, 2010
MRSA (methicillin resistant staph aureus) is a silent killer which strikes without warning, does not discriminate, and is everywhere. Brian is a local resident of Washington, IL who has been battling MRSA for roughly 5 years in addition to a myriad of other health problems. He has had a total of 7 amputations due to MRSA and found recently that his fight is not over. A portion of the proceeds will be used to make his daily life a little easier (i.e. making changes to his apartment to make it handicapped accessible, etc.). Erich Thompson Benefit Saturday, October 02, 2010
Friends Don’t Let Friends Fight Cancer Alone Benefit for the Erich Thompson Family In early April, Erich Thompson (formerly of Erich Thompson and the Stone Cold Cowboys) visited his family doctor with complaints of lower back and abdominal pain. He underwent a colonoscopy a week later that resulted in a stage 3 colon cancer diagnosis. On May 5th he underwent surgery to remove the affected section of colon and a large tumor in his abdomen. On June 9th Erich began chemotherapy at the Illinois Cancer Center in Peoria. Erich is a 1994 graduate of Illini Bluffs High School in Glasford. He and his wife, Denise, have been married for 12 years and have 2 children (Aubrey, 11 and Josh, 16). Both children are students at Illini Bluffs School. This is a 2-day event held at the Pekin Park Lagoon and Pavillion. Setup as 2-person "buddy teams" with our main focus directed towards the child 2-13 years of age. The older fishing "buddy" can be anyone age 14 and over. The older person is supposed to help to mentor the younger fisherman, not do all the fishing! Everything is provided ALL FREE of charge to each particiant!
Friday, July 22 from 4-8pm consist of the educational stations: 1.Safety, Ethics, Rules & Regulations of Fishing 2.Fishing Equipment, Rods, Reels, Lures & Bait 3. Fish Identification and the Aquatic Environment run by the IDNR 4. Knot Tying 5. Casting 6. Littering the Waterways run by Living Lands & Waters 7. Pond Critters Each participant is required to go through each of the stations at their leisure, takes approximately 1-2 hours. Once completed, they will receive their own "LCK Fishing License", a goodie bag filled with various coupons from local businesses, and a LCK T-shirt. Participation Friday night also makes the participants eligible for prizes to be given away on Saturday.

Saturday, July 23 from 8-11am is the actual fishing derby. Continental breakfast will be provided on Saturday. Prizes and trophies will also be handed out on Saturday. Trophies will be awarded for Smallest Fish, Largest Fish, 1st, 2nd, 3rd Place (to be determined by combined total weight of fish caught), Oldest Fsiherman, and Big Oscar (a "special" tagged fish in the lagoon). Prior to this event, we have stocked the lagoon to better everyone's odds of catching "the Big One!" In addition, we even provide Bait on Saturday. Everything is provided ALL FREE of charge to each particiant! There is a Crazy Hat contest during all this on Saturday as well - just one more fun thing for the kids to participate in if they like!
