WVEL Weather Scope Now: Below Freezing Temperatures Tips

(Photo By Flickr User espie (on and off))

If you’ve been outside on earlier this week, you’ve noticed how the temperatures have significantly dropped.

Overnight Monday & Tuesday, the wind chill got down to the single digits!

With this drop in temperatures, you’ll want to make sure you’re doing everything you can to protect yourself against the cold.

One important tip to remember is if you’re going to be outside, be sure you have no exposed skin.

Wear appropriate clothing; a wind-resistant coat, gloves, hat, and scarves to protect the skin from potential hypothermia or even frostbite.

The body actually loses heat faster than it can make it.

Also, if you haven’t done so already, check your heat!

Change your furnace filter now and every two to four months to make sure your furnace is operating properly.

For road safety, you’re going to want to make sure you’re clearing your windshield before driving off.

Also, drive slowly and be prepared for icing when there’s moisture and temperatures fall below the upper 30’s.

And lastly, check on your neighbors when you have time.

Older adults and young children are more at risk in extreme cold.
