Many of you have enjoyed an extended weekend due to Labor Day, but Illinois State Police want drivers to be safe when traveling home.

They advise drivers to check the weather for their entire route and car maintenance including tires before hitting the road.

According to WGEM-TV, Police say drivers should get plenty of sleep before getting behind the wheel!

Illinois State Trooper Roy Atwater said,

“Fatigue or ill driving, it can be just as dangerous as drunk driving or distracted driving, so make sure you’ve have plenty of rest and arrive at your destination safely.”

Illinois State Police, are also enforcing the fatal four violations which contribute the greatest to traffic crashes and death for Labor Day:

*Driving Under the Influence (DUI)
*Safety Belt and Child Restraint use
