Elderly, disabled, homeless people and their spouses, will have the ability to use supplemental nutrition assistance program (SNAP) benefits to buy meals at fast food restaurants in the state of Illinois.

The Restaurant Meals Program (HB3343) was singed into law by Gov. J.B. Pritzker on last week.

The bill allows benefit recipients with specific conditions to redeem SNAP vouchers at restaurants.

It is unclear which restaurants would participate or how they would be selected.

According to WGEM-TV, The Department Of Human Services will work with restaurants to adopt necessary rules to implement the meal program before January 1, 2020.
