The Illinois tornado outbreak that happened on Saturday, December 1st, is the third-largest in state history.

According to WEEK-TV, The National Weather Service made this announcement on Monday night. They said the outbreak, which included at least 26 confirmed tornadoes, is the largest December outbreak Illinois has ever seen, topping the 21 tornadoes seen on Dec. 18-19, 1957.

Numbers could change, the NWS says, because more storm surveys are scheduled for this week.

No deaths have been reported in the outbreak, which saw an EF-3 tornado heavily damage Taylorville, IL homes. Three total tornadoes went through Christian County and another three touched down in Macon County.

The largest outbreak in Illinois was reported on April 19, 1996, with 39 tornadoes. The next-worst involved 36 confirmed tornadoes on April 2, 2006.
