Disney’s “The Lion King” musical (that was held at the Peoria Civic Center Theater earlier this month), was an economic boost to the Peoria, IL area during its two-week run.

The Peoria Civic Center said the show made $2.4 million at the box office, with more than 29,000 people attending.

According to WEEK-TV, the total economic benefit may have been more than $7.8 million when travel, hotels, restaurants, and other businesses and costs are factored in.

The figure was based upon a Touring Broadway League statistic showing Broadway tours contribute 3.27 times the gross ticket sales to the local metropolitan area’s economy.
